SUSTAINABLE
ENTREPRENEURSHIP
IN SMART CLOTHING

Co-funded by the European Union

SEiSC

The project aims to enhance the ability of vocational training institutions to teach students sustainable entrepreneurial thinking, improving their employability. It connects institutions with sustainable clothing organisations using a cross-sectoral approach through practical simulation scenarios. By utilising AI algorithms and digitisation, adaptive teaching enables teachers to improve their practical skills through active learning methodologies and systems thinking. The project aligns with the EU Green Deal, Digital Education Action Plan 2021-2027, SDG4 “Quality Education,” SDG8 “Decent Work and Economic Growth,” and the European Education Area strategy by 2025. It addresses critical areas and priorities for sustainable development, innovation, digitisation, and inadequate skills, allowing partners to explore, design, and test concepts and products based on recycling, reuse, and waste reduction, contributing to the circular economy, Green Deal priorities, and new digitalised learning pathways for vocational education and training (VET).

The Target

Direct targets
  • Vocational Education and Training (VET) institutes in multimedia and fashion, fashion and electronics, technological sector machinery, and electricity-electronics, marketing and advertising.
  • Vocational Education and Training (VET) Teachers.
  • Vocational Education and Training (VET) Students.
  • Companies in the sustainable and smart clothing sector.
Indirect targets
  • Society.
  • Environment.
  • Businesses of all kinds.

Project’s background and needs analysis

The project enables partners to explore, design, and test concepts and products based on recycling, reusing, and reducing waste, contributing to the circular economy, Green Deal priorities and new digitalised learning paths for VET. 4 needs emerge in the EU education systems:

  1. VET institutions need to adapt their educational offer, practice, and pedagogy to reflect the actual and future needs of the labour market, allowing students to be sustainable and employable. Today’s society is rapidly changing, and the World Economic Forum in 2020 estimated that 40% of people in the labour market will need reskilling and upskilling pathways
  2. Teachers need updated digital skills to ensure that AI is effective in helping students.
  3. VET institutions must build relationships with highly innovative business sectors that use sustainable business models aligned with the Circular Economy Action Plan and national and European policies, such as the EU strategy for sustainable and circular textiles (adopted on 30/03/2022).
  4. VET institutions need to act proactively towards reaping the benefits of the green transition to effectively contribute to the European Skills Agenda for sustainable competitiveness, social fairness and resilience by embedding environmental and social sustainability into their programmes and organisational management, thus contributing to the implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

One last round table in Ankara
The SEiSC partners gather at Ortaköy 80. Yıl

Nearly three years after the kick-off in Dublin, the SEiSC partnership meets in person for the last time today, in Ankara. The hosts are Ortaköy 80. Yıl, a vocational and technical school in the Mamak district: exactly the kind of school the project was designed for.

Coordinated by LHKK, a Finnish school, SEiSC is an Erasmus+ project that brings sustainable entrepreneurship into vocational classrooms, starting from fashion and smart clothing, through digital tools and virtual simulation.

Day one begins where it matters most, in the classroom. Partners compare what they learnt as students tested the virtual simulation platform. Then come the Adaptive Teacher's Guide, the Virtual Community of Practice, the national conferences taking place across the six partner countries and the plan to keep the results alive once the project ends.

Day 1 in AnkaraHistory, views and Turkish coffee

Before the meetings begin, the SEiSC Erasmus+ partners took a day to get to know their host city.

🏛️ First stop: Anıtkabir, the mausoleum of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. Few places tell you more about modern Türkiye and how it sees itself.

🏰 In the afternoon, we wound our way up through the old quarter to Ankara Castle, where the city spreads out below in every direction.

☕ And to round things off, a proper Turkish coffee: strong, thick and best enjoyed slowly.

Getting to know the place you work in is part of the job. Tomorrow, it's down to business.

A big thank you to Okan Yavuz of Ortaköy 80. Yıl Mesleki ve Teknik Anadolu Lisesi, our hosts, for a warm welcome and a superbly organised visit.

What schools keepSEiSC closes in Italy
Publicly funded projects should be judged by what they leave in the classroom. That question ran through the Italian closing event of SEiSC, held at the Convitto Nazionale in Arezzo and organised by Tuscany’s Regional School Office with OpenCom.
The answer is practical. From November, schools can use Agora Lake free of charge. Developed by OpenCom, the simulation platform has students working in teams on a large sustainable sporting event, adjusting the path to the mistakes they make. A teacher’s guide and the project’s online course come with it. At Cellini-Tornabuoni in Florence, teachers trained in Helsinki are already using it with their classes.

The room brought together schools, universities, ITS Academies, trade associations and the Kering Group. It also heard an announcement: Tuscany’s Regional School Office plans to link 18 fashion schools with industry.
Coordinated by LHKK in Finland, SEiSC brings together nine partners from six countries and ends on 31 October.
